Our skin says a lot about us. Besides being our body’s largest organ, our skin has a very important job when it comes to our health.

However, the importance of skin health is often overlooked by many people. Many don’t give it a second thought until skin issues or conditions arise.

People spend hours at the gym, take numerous supplements every day, and are meticulous with their diets. Why shouldn’t the same care be taken for our skin?

In fact, our skin can act as an alarm system for our bodies, alerting us to allergies, deficiencies in nutrients, and more. It helps safeguard us against environmental factors like sun exposure or pollution, too.

But these factors do take a toll on our skin. Changes in pigmentation, such as darkening spots, might clue us in to sun damage. Excessive acne might indicate poor diet or the presence of toxins in the body, not to mention they leave lasting scars.

If left unchecked for too long, these temporary skin concerns can damage our skin for the long haul, not only leaving our skin more vulnerable overall, but also opening us up to embarrassment.

We all want to look good — to stand in front of the mirror and like what we see. But is skin repair possible?

Yes, yes it is.

Dermafacs is one company seeking to provide an accessible skin repair cream direct to the consumer — RecoverX.

RecoverX was developed by two experienced surgeons after a decade of studies and research. But does this skin repair cream actually work? Who can it help?

Stick around for an honest review of RecoverX.

About Dermafacs RecoverX

Dermafacs RecoverX was developed by two surgeons, Dr. Annabel Barber and Dr. Barbara Persons.

After monitoring the growing research on an ingredient called silica and micro-silica technology, these two surgeons decided to apply this knowledge to the world of skincare.

In short, new advances in micro-silica technology were found to help support and improve the skin’s natural repairing capabilities, leading to a new approach to clinical skin repair and recovery.

They worked closely with leading silica researcher Dr. Kinrade from the University of Cambridge to create RecoverX, a transdermal application of micro-silica compounds.

RecoverX is the only product on the market that uses silicon-based technology (HSX technology) to promote rapid skin repair. In 2020, Dermafacs finally created a digital storefront to keep up with customer demands. This allowed them to sell directly to customers.

Here’s what we found when we took our own virtual trip to their store.

RecoverX: How It Works

We’re fans of the science behind the cream — innovation in skincare is always something we appreciate.

For skin to heal, you need two things: oxygen and moisture. RecoverX handles both.

Most products aimed at skin repair rely on oil-based ingredients, only offering part of the equation — moisture.

However, the formula used in RecoverX is hygroscopic (attracts moisture) and helps support the exchange of oxygen and moisture, leading to rapid skin recovery. Basically, it helps create a moist, oxygenated environment for the skin to recover.

RecoverX features a specially formulated silicon compound. This compound helps optimize the delivery of naturally occurring molecules known as ortho-silicic acid, one of the smallest building blocks for silica that is known to promote the healthy growth of connective tissue.

As mentioned, the hygroscopic formula of RecoverX helps draw in moisture from the surrounding air to the damaged skin. This helps promote an optimal recovering and healing environment for damaged and scarred skin, being moist and hydrated.

What About the Ingredients?

Hydrated silica is one of the main ingredients found in RecoverX.

Silica, also known as silicon dioxide, is essentially a mineral — forming roughly 12% of the earth’s surface. It is the fourteenth element on the periodic table. In nature, it is often found as sand.

Unlike other minerals, silica is naturally occurring within the body. Research states that it has a role to play in collagen production. Collagen is an important structural protein found in the body, especially when it comes to skin structure, elasticity, and hydration.

Hydrated silica is derived naturally from silicon dioxide (with extra water molecules). In cosmetics, it often acts as a whitening and cleansing agent.

Here are the other ingredients we found are included in RecoverX:

  • Water
  • PEG-75 – An emulsifier that helps reduce surface tension; acts as a lubricator.
  • PEG-8 – Also an emulsifying and surfactant agent.
  • Propylene Glycol – Attracts moisture and locks it into the skin as a humectant.
  • Sodium Citrate – A natural buffering agent to help control pH levels in cosmetics.
  • Sodium Chloride – Acts as a binder and thickening agent in cosmetics.
  • Phenoxyethanol – Preservative to help extend shelf life.

How To Use RecoverX

We found RecoverX really easy to use, which is always nice to see with skincare products.

We applied RecoverX in the mornings and the evenings – RecoverX can be used alongside your morning and evening skincare routines, which we like because it makes it simple to add into an existing regimen. We saw best results when we applied it twice a day, which is what DermaFacs recommends, too.

Here’s how:

  1. Clean your face before use – Before applying RecoverX you will need to wash your face — this includes makeup. Cleaning your face before use will allow the serum to heal the skin more effectively. We added in exfoliation before application as well (but make sure you’re not overexfoliating!).
  2. Only a small amount is needed – The product packaging recommends using only a dime-sized amount of RecoverX. It can be applied with hands or a beauty tool.
  3. Apply RecoverX to the desired area – RecoverX should be applied with circular motions to the desired area, making sure the product is completely absorbed by the skin. Dermafacs states that RecoverX boosts skin moisture by 130% within 30 minutes of application to the skin.

Can RecoverX be used with medications and prescriptions?

As of now, RecoverX has no contraindications for use. So, we take it that it should be safe to use alongside other medications or prescriptions. However, if symptoms show up while using it, it’d probably be best to consult your healthcare provider.

What about open wounds or broken skin?

RecoverX can be used on open wounds, sores, and broken skin, though it might cause slight stinging. It also depends on the size of the wound. Microdermabrasions seem to be fine, but with larger wounds, it would be best to wait until they are closed.

What about sun exposure while using RecoverX?

RecoverX is safe to use during sun exposure, just make sure you are using the appropriate high-SPF sun protection as always! (We personally recommend at least SPF 30).

Here is what one customer had to say about RecoverX while early in the process:

I’ve only been using this product for a few days and the changes. Two days in and my acne scars have looked better than they have in years!

Who Might Benefit From RecoverX Skin Repair Cream?

Now that we have looked at some of the ingredients and science behind this skin repair cream, you may be wondering who can actually benefit from using it. Skin repair is a rather broad term after all. Plus, skin is unique and varies by person.

Per Dermafacs’s website, RecoverX is effective at fading the appearance and smoothing the texture of most types of damaged skin.

Damaged skin includes:

  • Damaged and wounded skin
  • Red and inflamed skin
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Acne scars
  • Stretch marks
  • Scars from eczema and psoriasis
  • Surgery and C-section scars
  • Laser treatment
  • Sunburns
  • Dark spots

Let’s look at a few of these conditions a little more closely.

Acne Scars

Acne is one of the main reasons people seek skincare treatment. Relieving acne requires its own medication and treatment. However, sometimes acne can damage skin and leave lasting scars due to the severity. These scars can develop as a result of tissue loss and can be raised or depressed on the skin.

Acne scars can be quite hard to deal with when they are on the face, which can cause feelings of embarrassment.

Here’s what one customer had to say about their experience with RecoverX and their acne:

I’m really impressed with the RecoverX cream. It arrived promptly, the day after I ordered it. I’ve never had terrible acne, but my forehead had some rough patches from recent breakouts. After several weeks of using the cream, I still have over half of it left, and I definitely see improvement in my skin!

Hyperpigmentation

Hyperpigmentation is another skin concern that affects many people. Often, it is used to refer to changes in skin tone and can refer to darkening spots on the skin, usually as a result of sun exposure or even just age.

Scars

Scars are among the top reasons people seek skin repair creams. These scars can be a result of a variety of things, from injury to surgery. Scars are the natural way the body heals and replaces the skin after injury. Unfortunately, the resulting scar is not always pretty. Oftentimes, scars can appear lumpy, sunken, and even discolored — not very appealing overall.

Here is another customer success story in the making:

I have been using it for four weeks. My small scars have disappeared and the big ones definitely look better. I definitely think it’s working on my scars. I don’t apply it as much as they say to do it. It’s more like once or twice a day when I can remember to do it.

How Much Does It Cost?

We hate to be the ones to break it to you, but results like these are not cheap.

Customers can buy RecoverX directly from Dermafacs’s website. Since it doesn’t require a prescription to buy, it is also available at select retailers such as Amazon.

Three options in purchasing RecoverX:

  • RecoverX (1 fl.oz. | 30 mL) for $99 USD
  • RecoverX (2.7 fl.oz. | 80 mL) for $164 USD
  • RecoverX (1 fl.oz. | 30 mL) Post Laser Repair Treatment for $164 USD*

*Dermafacs states that RecoverX is effective at reducing post-laser treatment surgery recovery time by 50%.

Dermafacs doesn’t have the shipping cost listed on their site, instead, it is calculated at checkout and depends on the shipping address. However, they do state it takes 3 to 5 business days to arrive after processing.

They also offer a 90-day money-back guarantee on their product, but a few conditions do apply. For one, if the return is approved, you are subject to a $17.95 restocking fee, which is taken out of the full purchase price.

How long will each bottle last me?

It depends on your personal usage, but typically the 80 mL bottle will last two months while the 30 mL bottle only lasts a month (or less).

Are the Results Permanent?

Dermafacs states that the results from RecoverX are permanent. But again, every situation and person is different. They recommend using RecoverX for at least 3-4 weeks for the best results — we started to see results at around the 10-day mark, with visible results in about two weeks based on the reviews we saw.

But keep in mind, some might see stronger and quicker results, and for some it may take months, not weeks. Everyone’s skin is different and we can’t stress this enough.

Bottom Line

So does RecoverX work? All signs point to yes — the science and ingredients coupled with the customer testimonials provide the proof.

Their website is full of customer testimonials, before and after pictures, and videos, each speaking to the effectiveness of the product in treating all sorts of damaged skin.

Here is one last customer testimonials to think on as we wrap up, especially if you’re a skeptic:

I was very skeptical and really didn’t want to spend $100 but I decided to give it a try and I am so glad I did! I have really bad scars on my back that were very dark from picking at acne for years. I thought I was going to have to just live with them for the rest of my life. Nothing I tried helped. But they have gotten sooo much better after using this for only about 2 weeks! I usually don’t write reviews but this worked so surprisingly well I had to share.

There isn’t a guaranteed magical timeline with skin repair. The key to success is consistency and patience — and taking the first step.
