How Does it Work? | Pros and Cons | The Food | Prep Time | Shipping and Delivery | Pricing | Website Review

One of the great battles of adult life is choosing what to eat every single day, three times a day. Whether your schedule’s booked solid with work, chores, and social obligations, or you’re just not-so-skilled in the kitchen department, figuring out how to feed yourself (and maybe your family, too) is often a challenge.

Fortunately, it’s 2021, and meal kits are everywhere. These kits offer an alternative option for anyone who dreads cooking a fresh breakfast, lunch, or dinner from scratch every day. Usually prepped and ready-to-go, equipped with simple cooking instructions, meal kits allow us to prepare a home-cooked feast without the added effort of grocery shopping, measuring, chopping and more.

Well, today we’re here to discuss one of the many meal-kit choices on the market—Gobble.

Gobble focuses exclusively on dinner recipes, promising quick, simple, 15-minute meals that are just as delicious as they are convenient. Of course, we had to wonder: do these dinner kits really live up to the hype? We’re here to get to the bottom of things.

Without further ado, let’s begin our deep-dive into Gobble. We’ll take a detailed look at everything you should know about this service, from their meals to their prices to their shipping speed. By the end of this article, you should be ready to make a decision about your next meal-kit endeavor.

How Does Gobble Work?

We can’t begin our review in earnest without quickly explaining how this whole meal-kit thing works. If you’re somehow unfamiliar with the concept of meal kits, this review might be confusing without a solid knowledge base. So, here goes nothing.

Gobble works just like most similar companies. First, we chose what kind of subscription we wanted—for Gobble, we chose between three or four dinners a week for either two people or four people. Then, we got to select the actual meals that we wanted for the week. We selected a delivery date and placed our order.

Next, the chefs at Gobble prepare the ingredients. They provide the exact measurements we needed for the recipe, all chopped and ready to cook. Finally, Gobble sent out our meal kit to be delivered to our doorstep. They claim that each of their meals takes only 15 minutes to prepare.

There you have it—the basic concept of a meal kit. Now, let’s take a look at how well this service actually performed.

The Pros and Cons of Gobble

Before we delve into the nitty-gritty details, let’s take a high-level look at this company as a whole. Like any business, Gobble has both pros and cons. These are a few of their most relevant advantages:

  • Their food was high-quality and delicious.
  • We could prepare Gobble meals in about 10-20 minutes.
  • Gobble’s shipping system was reliable and efficient.
  • Their website’s well-designed and easy to navigate.

  • Some customers claim that Gobble’s dinner kits take longer than 15 minutes to prepare.
  • Gobble uses a ton of packaging, which may be considered wasteful.
  • Gobble dinners are more expensive than some competitors.

The Food

When choosing a meal kit service, one thing seems pretty obvious—you want to pick one with great food. What’s the point of subscribing to a regimen of weekly meals if you won’t even enjoy them?

Naturally, Gobble promises to offer delicious, expertly-prepared meals, but how does this food really taste? Honestly, in our experience, their food’s delicious!

Gobble offers several types of meal plans: classic, vegetarian, and their “lean & clean” plan, which features low-calorie, low-carb meals. Each of these plans offers a variety of dishes and cuisines that taste just as good as a homemade meal that took hours to cook.

We love that Gobble provides a solid variety of meal options, including a vegetarian plan. Even for picky eaters or young children, it’s likely that you’ll find something that works.

If you don’t want to take our word for it, read through the two reviews below. These customers were fully satisfied by the taste and quality of Gobble meals. Take a look:

“Delicious & healthy. Easy to prepare & fresh food. Very happy with my weekly meals. Such a time saver, since all the food comes directly to my home! We especially love both the Indian and Mexican meals. As well as the fish!”

—Lynn, 5/5 Stars, Trustpilot

“Gobble is the best meal prep plan we have tried. After going through three other plans this is the only one we have stayed with. I am a terrible cook but these meals are delicious and very simple. Even I can make delicious food! If I can do it, anyone can.”

Prep Time

Another major consideration of any meal kit service is the actual preparation time. Being able to prepare a good meal in a short span of time’s basically the point of a meal subscription. Of course, all meal kit companies claim to have a super quick prep time, but do they really fulfill those promises?

Well, when it comes to Gobble, we’d have to say they do. We’ve found that cooking a Gobble dinner’s really easy and fast. They tend to take about 10-20 minutes to prepare.

If you don’t believe us, take a look at this rave review from a customer:

Our daughter and son-in-law just had a baby and they use Gobble for the convenience and great tasting, healthy meals. So, my husband and I tried it and have loved every single meal! The meals are extremely easy and quick to prepare - literally 10-15 minutes (and no annoying lengthy food prep like you have to do with Blue Apron). After dinner, the clean-up is super quick and easy, which is a major plus. There is just enough food for the 2 of us and we never have any food waste, which we especially appreciate. These dinners are absolutely the most delicious meals - as tasty as a meal in a 5-star restaurant! Gobble is a life changer, especially after a long day at work and a nightmarish commute. We love Gobble so much we even tried to buy stock lol! (but found out it’s privately held.

—Cheryl Cadigan, 5/5 Stars, Trustpilot

Clearly, Cheryl’s a huge fan of the convenience of Gobble, calling it a “life changer.” Maybe not every customer would go quite so far, but we think this passionate review accurately represents Gobble at its very best.

While we’re on the subject, we want to note that certain customers have actually argued the opposite. Some people feel that the meals take too long to prepare—in other words, Gobble doesn’t live up to its promise of a 15-minute prep time.

Of course, this is a fascinating conundrum. How could there be such a massive difference of opinion here? Well, we’d have to attribute that to each customer’s individual skill level.

If you’re an expert in the kitchen, these meals will take no time at all. However, if you’ve never cooked a day in your life, it may take just a little bit longer to get the hang of things. However, we’ve found that once you start preparing these meals more and more, that prep time will decrease to nearly nothing.

Shipping and Delivery

Next up’s the third most important factor to consider—shipping and delivery. Receiving your meal-kit on time and in one piece is an essential component of the meal kit model. Of course, as a consumer, you want to be sure that Gobble’s shipping system’s up-to-par.

Unfortunately, Gobble doesn’t offer free shipping. They charge a fee of $6.99 per week for shipment of your meal kits. So, as you consider Gobble as an option, be sure to incorporate that fee into your budget.

On the other hand, they are currently offering one convenient perk—free shipping on your first order! So, if you’d like to try Gobble just once, it won’t completely break the bank.

In terms of their shipping system, we’ve always found it reliable and efficient. We get to select the particular day that we’d like to have our meals delivered, and they always seem to arrive on time. As long as we refrigerate the ingredients as soon as possible, they stay super fresh.

Finally, there’s one subject that’s closely tied to shipping—their packaging. In general, we’ve discovered that Gobble uses an excessive amount of packaging, from cardboard boxes to insulation and more. When you’re getting meal kits each week, that waste quickly adds up. So, any eco-friendly readers out there should certainly make note of this.

Hopefully, Gobble will find a way to reduce their packaging and be a bit more environmentally-conscious.

The Cost

For someone who hates cooking, subscribing to a meal kit service seems like the perfect solution. Of course, everything comes at a cost. Some meal kit subscriptions really take a toll on your wallet.

So, let’s examine Gobble’s prices. Both the Lean & Clean and Classic plans cost $11.99 per serving. For dinner for two, three nights a week, we paid $71.94. For dinner for four, three nights a week, that cost will rack up to $143.88 (this doesn’t include shipping).

Now, let’s take a look at one of their competitors—HelloFresh, a hugely popular meal kit service. Their Meat and Veggies plan, which seems comparable to the Classic plan at Gobble, costs only $8.99 per serving. For dinner for two, three nights a week, that adds up to $62.93.

As you can see, Gobble’s on the more expensive side. At three extra dollars per serving, meals from Gobble may add up. There are certainly cheaper meal-kit plans out there.

However, you also have to consider the quality and convenience of the service, both of which we’ve discussed above. Gobble has received very positive reviews for the taste, variety, and overall quality of their meals. Sometimes, you get what you pay for—that’s all we’re saying.

Website Review

Our first impression of Gobble’s site was very positive. The homepage is simple yet aesthetically-pleasing, and it’s super easy to navigate. They provide a solid overview of how their business works, the plans they provide, and more. The site even features a few delicious-looking photos of their meals.

However, this brings us to our one complaint about the website. When you do decide to sign up for a plan, you actually have to input your payment information before you get to select your meals. In fact, this happens before you even get to see which meals are available. Frankly, this feature seems counterintuitive.

Other than that one small issue, we have nothing negative to say about gobble.com.

The Verdict on Gobble

If you couldn’t already tell, we’ve got a pretty positive outlook on Gobble. We find their food delicious, convenient, and super easy to prepare. Although their meals are on the pricier side, we think the cost’s worth it for those high-quality dinners.

Happy cooking!
