Xermelo works by blocking the production of serotonin in the body. In people who have carcinoid syndrome, serotonin is over-produced and causes symptoms of diarrhea or frequent bowel movements, stomach pain, and flushing (warmth, redness, or tingly feeling). Xermelo is used to treat carcinoid syndrome diarrhea. Xermelo may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide. Follow all directions on your medicine label and package. Gastrointestinal

Very common (10% or more): Nausea (up to 13%)

Common (1% to 10%): Flatulence, abdominal distention, gastrointestinal pain, constipation, abdominal pain/upper and lower abdominal pain

Very common (10% or more): Headache (up to 11%)

Hepatic

Common (1% to 10%): Increased gamma-glutamyltransferase (GGT)
