If this pain is accompanied by itchiness on the vulva, contact your doctor, as this can be a symptom of vulvar cancer. Intrarosa is a steroid intended to alleviate painful intercourse by counteracting atrophy in the vaginal tissue and is a product of AMAG Pharmaceuticals and Endoceutics, Inc.  Make sure to speak to your doctor or pharmacist for full prescribing information, especially if you are at high risk for breast cancer. You should also ask them about common side effects of Intrarosa, including abnormal pap smear, which was reported in a placebo-controlled clinical trial. Let your doctor know if you have continued issues during intercourse and report negative side effects of medication to Medwatch. The active ingredient in Intrarosa can be converted into estrogen and androgens, so there may be added risk for those with a history of breast cancer.
