Edarbi (azilsartan) is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (sometimes called an ARB). Azilsartan keeps blood vessels from narrowing, which lowers blood pressure and improves blood flow. Edarbi is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). Your doctor may prescribe other medicines for you to take along with Edarbi to treat your high blood pressure. Do not use Edarbi if you are pregnant. Stop using this medicine and tell your doctor right away if you become pregnant. If you have Diabetes, do not use Edarbi together with any medication that contains Aliskiren (a blood pressure medicine - e.g. Amturnide, Tekturna, Tekamlo, Valturna). Learn more

Oral route (Tablet)

Discontinue use of azilsartan medoxomil as quickly as possible if pregnancy is detected as drugs that act directly on the renin-angiotensin system can cause injury and death to the developing fetus.

Along with its needed effects, azilsartan medoxomil (the active ingredient contained in Edarbi) may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur while taking azilsartan medoxomil:


  • Blurred vision
  • confusion
  • dizziness, faintness, or lightheadedness when getting up suddenly from a lying or sitting position
  • sweating
  • unusual tiredness or weakness

Some side effects of azilsartan medoxomil may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

  • Cough

  • lack or loss of strength
  • muscle spasm

The most common side effects were diarrhea, dizziness, headache, dyslipidemia, cough, and increased blood creatine phosphokinase.

Uncommon (0.1% to 1%): Nausea
