Buspirone is an anti-anxiety medicine that affects chemicals in the brain that may be unbalanced in people with anxiety. Buspirone is used to treat symptoms of anxiety, such as fear, tension, irritability, dizziness, pounding heartbeat, and other physical symptoms. Buspirone is not an anti-psychotic medication and should not be used in place of medication prescribed by your doctor for psychotic disorders. Do not use buspirone if you have taken an MAO inhibitor in the past 14 days. A dangerous drug interaction could occur. MAO inhibitors include isocarboxazid, Linezolid, Methylene Blue injection, phenelzine, rasagiline, selegiline, and tranylcypromine. Learn more

Rare

  • Chest pain
  • confusion
  • fast or pounding heartbeat
  • fever
  • incoordination
  • mental depression
  • muscle weakness
  • numbness, tingling, pain, or weakness in the hands or feet
  • skin rash or hives
  • sore throat
  • stiffness of the arms or legs
  • uncontrolled movements of the body

Symptoms of overdose

  • Dizziness or lightheadedness especially when getting up from a sitting or lying position suddenly
