Adipex-P (phentermine) is a prescription medicine similar to amphetamine. Phentermine stimulates the central nervous system (nerves and brain), which increases your heart rate and blood pressure and decreases your appetite. Adipex-P is used together with diet and exercise to treat obesity, especially in people with risk factors such as high blood pressure, high Cholesterol, or diabetes. Do not use Adipex-P if you are pregnant or breast-feeding a baby. You should not use Adipex-P if you have a history of heart disease (coronary artery disease, heart rhythm problems, or congestive heart failure), previous stroke, severe or uncontrolled high blood pressure overactive Thyroid, glaucoma, extreme agitation or nervousness, a history of drug abuse, or if you take other diet pills. Along with its needed effects, phentermine (the active ingredient contained in Adipex-P) may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur while taking phentermine:

Rare

  • Seeing, hearing, or feeling things that are not there
  • severe mental changes

  • Chest pain
  • decreased ability to exercise
  • dizziness
  • fainting
  • fast, irregular, pounding, or racing heartbeat or pulse
  • headache
  • numbness or tingling in the arms or legs
  • swelling of the feet or lower legs
  • trembling or shaking of the legs, arms, hands, or feet
  • trouble breathing
  • trouble with thinking, speaking, or walking
  • weakness
