Can You Get Skin Tags from Running or Exercise?

Skin tags can develop for many reasons. The most common is skin-on-skin friction, which is why they are more Prevalent among overweight and older people. Not surprisingly, the same thing happens when people play sports, as well. Running and exercising both cause friction.

People who are active runners or exercise often can get skin tags under the arms or in the groin area. This may happen because this is where skin and clothing are continuously rubbing. It doesn’t matter how much you weigh in this circumstance, although if you are overweight, there will be more friction in certain areas of the body.

Children and teens who play sports often get skin tags. When you sweat, an additional problem for athletic people, there is even more friction. You could put a body powder in these places to cut down on the friction, but much depends on how much you sweat.

In this article, we will talk more about how skin tags can develop from exercising and running. We will also cover how to get rid of skin tags at home.

Can You Get Skin Tags from Running?

Running causes friction on the skin in many areas of the body. When you run, you use your arms and legs, and depending on how much or how fast you run, the skin will continuously rub against itself. You will also sweat, which causes additional friction, as wet skin tends to stick to other skin.

Damp clothing can also aggravate the skin more, as it tends to stick. The continuous rubbing will allow the skin to form a skin tag or a cluster of skin tags. They are not harmful at all, but they can be bothersome. Some people also find them embarrassing, if they are in a place that is visible to others.

A good way to prevent skin tags when you are an active runner, or jogger, is to put a body powder, or even baby powder, where you tend to sweat a lot.  This will lessen the amount of friction, thus reducing the chance of getting a skin tag.

Can You Get Skin Tags from Exercise?

Just like running, exercising will make different areas of the skin rub against itself. Also, many times exercise clothing is snug-fitting. Again, this will cause friction. You could wear loose-fitting clothing, which will allow your skin to breathe and will not rub against it as much.

As with running, you could put powder on the areas where friction occurs. Depending on your routine, you may want to use powder on your entire body.

Your neck and shoulders also get rubbed against by tank tops, which will cause irritation.

Skin tags can easily be removed, though. Many people get them, and they can range in size from very small to about the size of a grape. No matter the size, you shouldn’t worry about cancer or anything, because they are not a medical condition. If you are worried, however, it would be best just to check with your doctor to make sure that they are, indeed, skin tags. You can then remove them without any problems.

How to Prevent Skin Tags

There is no guaranteed way to prevent skin tags.  You can use powder, as suggested above, to reduce friction on the skin. You can also wear looser clothing, as this will also reduce friction.

If you wear jewelry on your neck, you may want to take that off during physical activity.

If you are overweight, the exercise will help you lose some of that weight, and lessen the chance of getting them, as there will be fewer folds in the skin.

How to Remove Skin Tags Safely

There are many ways to remove skin tags. Some people choose to go to their doctor or a dermatologist to have them removed. Since health insurance won’t cover these procedures, you will have to pay to get it, or them, removed. If you have multiple skin tags, this can get a bit expensive.

There are ways to remove skin tags yourself at home. They are safe and will cause no pain. Below we will suggest some very good treatments that are fast and effective.

Skin Tag & Wart Remover Kit

One of the best removers that we have found is called the Skin Tag and Wart Remover Kit. You will find everything that you need to quickly and effectively get rid of the skin tag. Results happen fast with this kit.

All that you have to do is mix the paste, and apply it.  It does come with an applicator, but for small skin tags, it is recommended to use a cotton swab, or toothpick if it is tiny. Usually, when they grow in clusters, they will be very small.

After the treatment has been on for about an hour, gently rinse it off. The skin tag will be gone, and a small scab will remain. This scab should not be touched or scratched off, as it could leave a scar if it is not ready to come off yet. This is no different than picking off a scab from a scratch on the skin.

The scab may last for as long as three weeks.  During this time, the skin will heal. When the scab comes off, the skin will heal very quickly.

Can running or exercise cause skin tags?

TagBand Skin Tag Removal Device

You may have already heard of removing skin tags with dental floss or a small string around the skin tag. This can lead to infection. The TagBand Removal Device does the same thing, but it is not painful, and it won’t get infected.

It is also very easy to use. It is a kit that includes an easy to use applicator and rubber bands. All that you have to do is to put a band around the applicator, put the applicator tool over the skin tag, and slide the band off of it.

The band will be tight around the skin tag, stopping the blood flow from reaching it. After a few days, you will notice that it is turning a darker color, even black. This means that it is dying, and will fall off very soon.
